Obituary for Abdon Valencia Guizar

Abdon Valencia Guizar was born in Teocuitatlan, Jalisco, Mexico on July 30, 1935 to Jesus Guizar and Trinidad Valencia Guizar. Abdon and his family emigrated to the United States in 1950 and resided in Los Angeles, California. After graduation from Theodore Roosevelt High School, Abdon enlisted and proudly served in the United States Army and in 1959 became a citizen of the United States.

After his military service, Abdon enrolled and attended what today is known as the California Polytechnic State University where he earned a degree in Landscape Architecture. Abdon was then employed by several firms in the Los Angeles area and in 1973 was recruited to join the Planning and Design Group in Golden, CO. In 1980, Abdon started his own business known as Abdon Guizar & Associates. For nearly four plus decades, Abdon dedicated his expertise to the Stevinson/Denver West development and because of his devotion and influence, Denver West possesses unique architecture and carefully crafted landscaping that distinguishes it from other office properties in Denver and the region.

Abdon’s passion was helping those less fortunate than himself and who desired to improve themselves, as he did, through education and hard work. His generous philanthropic giving focused on the needs of families and youth of the inner-city supporting organizations such as Seeds of Hope, Escuela de Guadalupe, St Rose of Lima School and Arrupe Jesuit High School.

Abdon is preceded in death by his father Jesus Guizar, mother Trinidad Guizar, brothers Efren Guizar, Ralph Guizar and sisters Ophelia Hernandez and Elpidia Guizar. Abdon is survived by nephews Steven Hernandez, Caesar Guizar, Victor Guizar, Gilbert Guizar, Mark Guizar, Ed Guizar and nieces Blanca Guizar-Caldera, Cindy Hernandez-Hargis, Trish Hernandez-Crawford, Susanna Guizar-Sempelsz, and Zabrina Guizar.
