Obituary for Anthony Howard "Tony" Tierney

Anthony Howard “Tony” Tierney rejoined Alice, his life partner of 44 years on June 7, 2022 while in the company and comfort of his only child Curry. He passed away with the knowledge that he was well-loved and that his memory will live on not only in his daughter Curry and his grandchildren Mira and Xander, but in all his friends, family, and organizations that were a big part of his life.

Tony was born in 1949 in Manchester, IA, to Patrick and Jean Tierney, the second of six children. After growing up in Memphis, TN, he married Alice Garner in 1974 in Rome, GA, and shared his life with her for 44 years before her untimely death in 2018. After his daughter Curry was born, he and Alice moved to Littleton, CO, where he resided for the remainder of his life. A career-long member of the trucking equipment industry, Tony was known not only for his strong relationships, but for his service to the industry through his volunteer work with professional organizations.

Outside of work, Tony loved to volunteer his time to numerous organizations and loved to spend time with friends and family. He remained a lifelong lover of golf, a passion that endured until the very end of his dynamic life. Tony was always proud of his Irish heritage, and he enjoyed watching the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team as well as spending St. Patrick’s Day with Curry while watching Mira play soccer.

Nothing gave Tony more pleasure than spending time with his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and his network of friends and colleagues. Tony will be remembered as a warm husband, father, grandfather, and friend who remembered even the smallest details of those in his life and took pleasure in their happiness. He boundlessly shared his time, talents, and energy to all those he cared about.

Tony is survived by his daughter Curry Houck and her husband Kevin of Thornton; his siblings Patricia Tierney, Susan Roberts, Ona Cooper, and Shannon Marchand - all from the Memphis, TN area, and Kevin Tierney from St. Louis, MO; his grandchildren Mira and Xander; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Patrick and Jean Tierney and his wife Alice.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of the following organizations in Tony’s honor:

The American Heart Association - Heart Disease is the #1 killer in our country. It took my dad and many others, and we have chosen to donate in his honor in the hopes that more research will mean better outcomes for others. https://www.heart.org/

Jefferson County Trade Links - My father started volunteering his time at Jeffco Public Schools after my mother died in 2018. He arranged job shadows and spoke at job fairs about the automotive industry, which he had been a part of for over 35 years. We have chosen to donate in his honor to help more kids find a trade they are good at: https://www.jeffcopublicschools.org/programs/career_college_pathways/jeffco_career_links
We will be working directly with this program to fund a scholarship or other activities.

Illimunate Colorado - Illuminate Colorado is home to the Colorado Chapter of FASD United, the national voice on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. This organization supports individuals, families, and communities living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and other preventable intellectual/developmental disabilities and works to prevent prenatal exposure to alcohol, drugs, and other substances known to harm fetal development by raising awareness and supporting women before and during their pregnancy. We will be donating in his honor because through adoption, our family has been profoundly affected by FASD. https://www.illuminatecolorado.org/

Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer Team - the running joke in our family is that my dad is the best athletic supporter. He gets behind anything the kids are involved in with his full support. He will be sorely missed on the sidelines so we will be donating to his favorite collegiate soccer team. My children have been fortunate to share their grandparents with many friends and teammates. https://cmumavericks.com/sports/womens-soccer

For convenience, a GoFundMe page has been set up that will be distributed evenly among the four organizations if you prefer this method. This donation page can be found at: https://gofund.me/b77ac6a5
