Obituary for Barbara Dreher Schneider

Barbara Dreher Schneider completed her earthly journey on Saturday, July 30, in Colorado, at the age of 86. She was born in Milwaukee, WI, on November 18, 1935, and lived in many places across the country as the daughter of a Naval officer. She met her beloved late husband Bill while a student at the University of Wisconsin, and they were married in 1955. They spent their early years in Boston, MA and Dallas, TX before eventually moving to the Denver area in 1977 where they have remained since.

Barb was an Art Major in college and maintained her love for fine art, especially Western Art, as well as theater and symphony, over the span of her life. She was a supporter of the Foothills Art Center in Golden, and enjoyed visiting Santa Fe, New Mexico with Bill where they could partake in southwestern food, art, and culture, as well as enjoy the famous Santa Fe Opera.

Barb supported Bill in many ways over his successful career in Geophysics: working as a faculty secretary while he completed his PhD at MIT, proofing and typing a textbook he wrote while a professor at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden and joining him at major industry conferences where he was a frequent speaker.

Additionally, she found various ways to give back to the community and make an impact wherever she went. She was an Episcopalian and served on the church altar guild in every parish in which they belonged. She loved flowers and gardening! She also was a huge animal lover, especially Golden Retrievers. Her last Golden was a rescue and Leia and Barb made rounds at Children’s Hospital in Denver as part of the Pet Therapy program. It was one of her greatest joys. She always placed family at the top of her priority list, and was an avid homemaker and loving, supportive mother to three children and later grandchildren. The grands all delighted her!

Barb and Bill had a wonderful and active life together enjoying the great outdoors – sailing, skiing, hiking, camping, biking, and many other adventures. They enjoyed tennis and golf for many years and made many close friends along the way at RHCC and Ironwood in Palm Desert.

Barb is survived by her son Bill Schneider, daughter-in-law Julie Schneider, daughter Ellen Connelly, son-in-law Michael Connelly, daughter Polly Traylor, son-in-law David Traylor, and grandchildren Leslie, Ben & Polly Schneider, Jackson & Luke Connelly, Shelby and Campbell Traylor; and her sister Polly Hermann, brother-in-law Dr. Robert Hermann, brother Bill Dreher, sister-in-law Susie Dreher, brother Dr. Joe Dreher, sister-in-law Sue Dreher, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was blessed!

In lieu of flowers, donations in Barb's memory may be sent to Calvary Episcopal Church in Golden, CO
