Brad Lee Geiger of Castle Rock passed away on Nov. 17 from complications of heart disease. He was 72.
Brad was born on October 31, 1950, in Fairhope, Ala. to William and Dorothy Geiger. The third of four brothers, he grew up in Elberta, Ala. He graduated from Foley High School in Foley, Ala. In 1968 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of West Florida in 1973. He also played tennis in college and won a few trophies along the way.
After graduation, Brad worked in the information technology departments of State Farm Insurance and the US Navy base in Pensacola, Fla. He met Becky Smoot there, and they married in 1984. Their son, Jesse, was born in 1986.
In 1994, Brad and Becky accepted positions within the Department of Defense in Denver, and both worked there until retiring in 2013.
Brad was a devoted husband and father. His life centered around his faith and family. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Castle Rock, volunteering his time on the property maintenance team. He and Becky started a couples’ Bible study that combined great food with deepening their faith. At Faith, he rarely missed a church gathering.
Brad lived out his faith, giving back to others both at work and in his community. He supported efforts to improve the work environment in the data center in Pensacola by volunteering on the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) committee. In Denver, he worked with the Salvation Army to set up a giving tree at the office every Christmas for families in need. After retirement, he volunteered at Castle Rock Adventist Hospital, delivering mail and greeting visitors. He spent many years volunteering at the Help and Hope Center in Castle Rock in the food distribution center helping clients and driving trucks to pick up donated food.
Brad enjoyed his retirement years to the fullest: golfing, gardening, sitting outside socializing with his neighbors, and enjoying game nights and New Year’s Eve progressive parties that always seemed to end at the Geiger house. He indulged his passions for photography and travel, roaming the world with Becky to Iceland, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, and – especially – Uganda, where Jesse and daughter-in-law Rachel were on mission. Going on amazing safaris in Uganda was the highlight of his life!
He is survived by his wife, Becky; his son, Jesse (Rachel) of Lafayette; and his two granddaughters, Evelyn and Josephine. He is also survived by his three brothers, Danny (Nancy) of Pensacola, Alex (Molly) of Foley, and Raymond (Faye) of Elberta, as well as 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Brad’s life will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, December 3 at Faith Lutheran Church, 303 North Ridge Road in Castle Rock. In lieu of flowers, Brad’s family requests donations to the Faith Lutheran Church Food Pantry, the Help and Hope Center, or the American Heart Association.
