Obituary for Edward James Kachenko Jr.

Edward James Kachenko, Jr. age 74 passed away on 6/22/2021 and was the son of Edward Kachenko and Esther (Collier) Kachenko.

Known to most as Jim, he graduated from Denver North High School in 1964 and enlisted in the U.S Army. He was deployed to Thailand, where he was a military police officer. After returning from Thailand, Jim enrolled in an electrical engineering program at Metro State University, where he received his bachelors degree in the first graduating class at the university.

After college, Jim worked at Rocky Flats until the facility closed. In 1994 he relocated to Los Alamos, NM to work at the Los Alamos National Labs, where he would ultimately retire.

As most know, he was quite stubborn. While it took convincing, he eventually relocated back to Colorado in 2017 to be closer to family. Jim was a talented artist and highly skilled hobbyist photographer. He took great pride and joy in capturing nature in a photograph. He loved trials motorcycles and was a long-time member of the American Motorcycle Association. Jim had strong convictions and always knew exactly what he wanted. He will be missed by his family and many cherished friends.

He is survived by his sisters; Janet Kachenko and Mary Valcoff, and his nieces and nephews; Brandon Ricci, Amber Ricci, Heather Leitch, Jeff Leitch, Hillary Leitch, and Hayley Baker.
