On Sunday, September 5, 2021, James “Jim” Anthony Sproles, loving husband, father of two children, and grandfather to three grandchildren passed away at the age of 80 in Wheat Ridge, CO.
Jim was born on February 26, 1941, in Welch, West Virginia to Carl and Virginia Sproles (Terry) and was the only child. After graduating high school in 1958, he joined the Navy and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. On April 9, 1966, he married the love of his life Gretchen Marie Spomer. They raised two children, their daughter, Rachel, and their son, Jason.
He loved watching drag racing, Alabama football and the Denver Broncos, and going to see the Blue Angels. Jim also had a passion for wood working and fly fishing. His love of these hobbies was passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was devoted to his faith and could be found doing various volunteering opportunities at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Littleton, CO.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gretchen, his two children, Rachel Case (and Ken) of Granby, CO and Jason Sproles (and Kerry) of Golden, CO. He has three grandchildren, Zach, Kayla and Makenzie.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Club at Rolling Hills in Golden, CO on Saturday, September 25, from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Naval Honors is scheduled at Fort Logan Cemetery in Denver CO on Monday, September 27 at 2:30 p.m., staging area “B”.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s name to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Littleton, CO or the Veterans Memorial. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Morning Star in Arvada and the staff at Lutheran Medical Center for their care.
