Obituary for Jan Marie Oxman

Jan Marie (Roetzel) Oxman, 83, passed away June 28, 2022, in Golden, CO. She was born July 27, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Joseph Peter and Genevieve (Porte) Roetzel. She is survived by her younger sister Judy Meisner, her son Kip Oxman and his wife Boonmee, her daughter Heather Duncan and her husband Ben Sloat, grandchildren, Toa, Meena and Jessica, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and younger sister Sally Lanagan, married to Mike Lanagan.

When she was young, living in Oklahoma and in Houston, Texas, she was a competitive swimmer and loved to play softball and ride her bike. She was known as a bit of a tomboy and loved to yo-yo and take care of the family pets. The family later moved to Colorado Springs, CO where she finished high school. She obtained a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Colorado, a M.A. in Psychology from the University of Denver, a Teacher’s Certificate in Psychology from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Colorado State University. She went on to practice Psychology and Psychoanalysis until she retired. Throughout her career, her overriding professional ambition was to help others.

She was smart, independent and strong-willed. She was proud to be a published writer in Psychology and was always researching best practices in her field. Outside of her focus on education and her career, she loved her animals and had a fine eye for antiques. She spent her time writing poetry and was passionate about taking care of and riding her horses. Her greatest pride however was in her love for her family who she held close to her heart.

The family will be holding a small private gathering however, if you would like to make a donation in memory of Jan, she supported The Kempe Foundation https://kempe.org/
