Obituary for Joseph K. Legnard

Joseph Kevin Legnard of Winter Park and Golden, CO passed away on March 12th, 2022 after a valiant battle with cancer at the age of 47. He was born March 26, 1974 in Stamford, CT, the son of Robert and Mary Legnard of Bethel, CT. He was the youngest of three siblings.

Joe graduated from Bethel High School in 1992 and went on to study Finance at the University of Alabama. After graduating in 1997, he worked in Bethel for a short time before moving to Colorado, to continue his 20+ year career in finance

Joe is survived by his parents, Bob and Mary Legnard of Bethel, his brother John and sister in law Ericka of Conifer, CO, his brother Jim and sister in law Danielle of Bethel, CT, his nephews Evan, Kevin and Brian and his niece Katie.

Joe was an avid outdoorsman to the core and loved everything Colorado. From skiing with his second family at Winter Park Ski Patrol to mountain biking with friends to rock climbing and hunting all over the West and Midwest, he was always looking for the next adventure. He was happiest outdoors and spent some of his most enjoyable times doing hard work at several ranches in and around Parshall Colorado.

Joe was a devoted Alabama fan, ROLL TIDE! He never missed a Saturday game and especially after this year, he had a fan paraphernalia collection to rival most anyone. Joe was always sporting the logo of the Crimson Tide and it led to numerous friendly exchanges with hospital staff from rival colleges.

His battle with cancer showed his courage in facing life challenges with an upbeat attitude. Joe’s dry sense of humor and quick wit was with him until the very end. As those who loved him would expect, he was throwing out one liners and entertaining visitors all during his time in hospice.

Anyone who knew Joe was touched by his humor, mild temperament and loyalty. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered. The outsized impact he had on those lucky enough to have been loved by him is his greatest legacy.

Joe will be honored with a Mass at St. Mary's in Bethel, CT, on Saturday, March 19 at 10:30am. There will also be a celebration of life on the ranch in Parshall, Colorado this summer.

The family requests donations be made to one of three organizations that were near to Joe’s heart: The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Winter Park Colorado Ski Patrol and The Scotty Fund.
