Obituary for Katherine Annie Bishop

Katherine Annie Bishop (Kathy) passed away peacefully on Sept 20, 2021 from complications with heart failure. She died in her home with her daughters by her side.

Kathy was born Aug 4, 1942 in New Jersey. Her dad served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and her mom was a nurse. She was the middle child between two brothers, Ed and Jim. As a child, she liked to climb trees, play in the dirt, and also draw. She had an artistic ability from an early age and was asked to contribute some drawings to her high school year book. After high school, Kathy went into nursing school and graduated in 1965. As a new nurse, she worked in New Jersey but later moved to Colorado following a trip with her brother. Her initial home in Colorado was Aspen where she fell in love with the mountains. While there, she skied a lot and actually won second place in a skiing competition. She loved her time in Aspen and decided Colorado would be her forever home.

Eventually Kathy moved to Denver and married Richard Bishop in 1977 (later divorced in 1989). They had two girls, Mandy and Crystal. Kathy was a devoted mother who defined her life by her daughters and their accomplishments. Kathy was a lifelong learner who was always trying to grow. Her interests included nature, animals, painting, reading, and music, among others. She valued her relationship with God and her church family.

She spent the last six years living in a memory care facility due to dementia. In spite of multiple health problems in her later years, Kathy continued to try new things and always kept a positive attitude. She was adored by her neighbors and was known as someone who would bring people together for puzzles and games every day. In recent years, two of her paintings were auctioned off for charity for the Alzheimer's Association.

Kathy is preceded in death by her mother (Katherine Taylor), father (James Raymond), brother (James), sister in law (Barbara), brother (Edward), and nephew (Matthew). She is survived by her daughters, Mandy and Crystal, as well as her sister in law (Julie), niece (Rebecca), nephew (Ben), nephew (James), and nephew (Jeffrey).

She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her. A celebration of life will be held October 10th at 2pm at Parkview Congregational Church, 12444 E Parkview Dr, Aurora, CO 80011. For anyone wishing to attend remotely, there is a Zoom link available below.
