Obituary for Shirley A. Tucker

Shirley Ann (Block) Tucker was born March 27, 1936 on a farm outside of Eden, South Dakota. She was number nine of eleven children. Shirley attended grade school in a small country school then graduated from Sisseton High School in 1954. She was a member of the National Honor Society.

In 1958, Shirley and sister Marlys left the snow and moved to Southern California. There she began a 36 year career as an accounting manager at McDonnell Douglas. During this time Shirley met the love of her life, Marv Tucker (Marvelous Marv). They spent more than 60 years together. Although Shirley never had kids of her own, she was a guiding light and a soft place to land for her many nieces and nephews throughout the years.

When Shirley and Marv retired in the early 90's they began a new adventure traveling the country in their 5th wheel. Shirley shared many fond memories of their time on the road.

After Marv's passing in 2009, Shirley rejoined forces with sister Marlys and off they went. "The Golden Girls", "LaVerne and Shirley" and "Thelma and Louise" as they became fondly known embarked on many new adventures. They took trips to South Dakota for parties and cards and to Laughlin for friends and slots. They traveled to hear Gene Watson play and to watch the races. They had fun and made new friends everywhere they went. Shirley went nonstop and was always up for a game of cards with her baggie full of quarters. Her and Marlys spent a week in January in Oklahoma cheering on Jake, racing at the Chili Bowl. Then they flew to South Dakota for their brother Tommy's 90th birthday just prior to her passing.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, husband Marv, 6 brothers, 1 sister and other family members. She is survived by 2 brothers, a sister, stepdaughter, grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Shirley was a beautiful blue eyed soul. A deeply faithful woman who was kind, funny, loving and giving. She will be deeply missed by all.
