Obituary for Stephen Patrick Tilson

Stephen Patrick Tilson passed away unexpectedly on July 5, 2022, at the age of 34. Steve was born to Joseph & Margaret Tilson on June 23, 1988, in Chicago, Illinois. Joe and Margaret and his siblings are devastated by this loss and will feel the absence of Steve forever. During his short life, he taught us through example the true meaning of courage, compassion and love. Steve is survived by his sister Mary Tilson, brother Charles Tilson, sister Jane Tilson and brother Will Tilson. The family will celebrate Stephen’s life in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made online to the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless at https://www.coloradocoalition.org/donate

Those who were lucky enough to know Steve know there was no one in the world like him. He was deeply sensitive, strong in every sense of the word, creative, intelligent, and so much fun. He applied a fierce determination to anything he set his mind to, and because of that, he was a man of many talents from juggling to boxing to running at record-breaking speed.

Steve was a deep thinker who would challenge you to see the world differently. He was never one to compromise on his values and had a special way of bringing your attention back to what truly mattered in life.

Touching each of his four siblings’ lives in meaningful ways, Steve was the kind of big brother that would invite you over on the weekends to help with your homework, offer tough love when he saw you stepping out of line, and above all, made you feel loved and accepted unconditionally.

The kindness and compassion Steve offered others only grew as he touched the depths of his own pain. Despite a quiet battle with mental illness, he never lost his sense of humor or ability to bring joy and laughter into every room.

While his absence leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who loved him, his presence will be felt in the paths and trails that he walked every day, and the many meaningful lessons he left behind.
